Taxco Blue Jacket
This denim coat celebrates La Bella Taxco, an enchanting mining village nestled in the mountainous terrain of Guerrero. The breathtaking scenery of Tierra Caliente served as the muse for William Spratling, the artist and architect who founded his renowned silver workshop, attracting iconic figures like Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Tina Modotti, and others to this alluring destination. These one-of-a-kind pieces were hand-dyed at Mexico City's La Sublime Workshop, using natural materials such as indigo for the blue garments and cochineal for the pink ones. Spratling's preferred colors - blue for the door frames and pink for the bougainvillea - add a touch of whimsy to this jacket, featuring unique hand-embroidered typography and motifs inspired by the region's characteristic style. Each garment is truly one-of-a-kind and may fade slightly over time, a natural part of the organic dyeing process that only adds to its individual charm.
